The Helmet- July 2021. Commissioned Work
I was commissioned to create a series of space themed helmets based on a design by Jenn Mann with working visors and internal LED lights. The main body is made from an acrylic light cover. I 3D printed a shoulder collar and a pivot mechanism to create a lightweight, comfortable, and fun costume piece, perfect for raves and festivals.

I used tape to layout the visor location and the hinge pivot point.

Acyrlic is tricky to cut. Tape helps to keep a clean edge and prevent scratches. I used a spiral cutting bit and a Dremel tool to carefully cut out the openings.

Trying to keep the piece steady is crucial to getting a clean cut. I found a 5 gallon bucket made a perfect rest for the piece and allowed me to rotate it in any direction.
