Washington DC
Role: Warehouse Coordinator, Sumer 2017
Shop Foreman, Summer 2018
As the warehouse coordinator, I was responsible for the receiving, storage, inventory and delivery of almost every item on the National Mall during the Festival. This could range from 4 truckloads of t-shirts and other merchandise for sale in the Marketplace, a pallet of fire extinguishers for Food and Beverage services, crates of circus equipment belonging to the various groups arriving from around the world, to all of the constructed pieces for the venue ready for final assembly. I oversaw a team of assistants and drivers, coordinated with the rest of the Smithsonian departments, and kept the trucks moving.
In the Shop Foreman position, I managed the flow of material and personnel in the scene shop to get the scenery built on time, accurately, and safely. I oversaw tool maintenance, lumber orders, deliveries and shipping. I allocated projects to my team of carpenters and welders, worked collaboratively to problem solve on the fly, and lead the load in and strike process on the National Mall.

A large shooting boom cranes each piece of the plaza to join its column.

Behind the Scenes
Paper Work

We received additional support from other branches of the Smithsonian. I coordinated all needs and was responsible for daily and weekly updates to the schedule

Every item on the truck was tagged as to its contents and destination. The data was then collated and placed on a sheet for the driver, with instructions for drop off locations and handling instructions for the receiving end

I also managed our inventory system, and put together documents on particular areas to allow participants to see and choose what they wanted.

As we had participants from all over the US, Canada and Mexico shipping their equipment to the warehouse before the Festival, I had to inventory and log their equipment to ensure it would arrive on time to the venue.

Whether it came to me by phone call, text, or email, all delivery requests were logged and tracked.

Every item would have a temporary packing slip, in addition to its permanent contents inventory, attached, with directions as to its drop off location, contents, and contact information.
